The Power of Habit: Understanding Why Your Brain Prefers the Easy Path

Let’s be real, almost everything we do is a habit. Yup, even that thing where you “accidentally” eat half a bag of chips while deciding what to make for dinner (no judgment, I’ve been there too).

I see it all the time—women’s wellness journeys that start with the best intentions, only to get tripped up by those sneaky, subconscious habits. Our brains are basically on autopilot. Let’s be honest, they love the easy route. If there’s a choice between a green smoothie and a donut, your brain is probably whispering, “Donut. You deserve it. It’s Friday. Or Monday. Or… whatever day ends in ‘y.’”

But here’s the thing: habits aren’t just about willpower. They’re about what we’ve trained ourselves to do, over and over. And yes, it’s easier said than done to swap out old routines for new ones. If it were easy, I’d have a six pack and a fridge full of kale (spoiler: I barely have either, but I do have a killer recipe for gut health smoothies).

When I work with women through my transformation packages, we talk a lot about how to make healthy habits stick. It’s not about being perfect or getting it right every day, it’s about being consistent. Want better gut health? Start with one small change, like adding a probiotic rich food to your breakfast. Want more energy? Try a five minute morning stre

tch (bonus points if you do it in your pajamas). And if you slip up, laugh it off! Habits are hard to break, but they’re not impossible. Remember, every time you make a choice that supports your wellness, you’re rewiring your brain. You're stepping into the reality of your highest self

So next time you catch yourself reaching for the easy option, pause and ask: “Is this habit helping me feel my best?” If not, let’s work together to build new ones—ones that make you feel strong, happy, and truly yourself (whoever that may be)
